Angela Miller is an active multi-faceted musician currently residing in Southern California. Primarily a performing artist on viola and violin, Angela has rich experience in all facets of classical performance including solo, chamber, and orchestral music. This keeps her perfomring throughout Southern California in all performance venues. As a member of the Young Artist's String Quartet at UCSB from 2012-2014 she has performed for artists such as Yo Yo Ma, Gil Shaham, Kronos Quartet, and the Silk Road Ensemble.
Angela's musical pallet also includes ample exposure to cross genre music in styles including pop, jazz, bluegrass, old-time, scottish, irish and klezmer fiddle. It is this influence that is visible in her compositions that are classical with a folk flare.
While in her Doctoral Candidacy, Angela specialized in hymnody. This included both historical perspectives as well as performative implications for classical musicians. Her debut album of hymn arrangements for viola solo including guest performances by cirtically acclaimed violist Helen Callus is in the editing stages and will be released in the fall of 2016. It included contemporary hymn arrangements both by Angela as well as other composers.
Not limited to performing, Angela is also a very gifted and versatile teacher. She has experience teaching students ranging from 5 years old to adult in both private and group lesson format. She is also well versed in the El Sistema method of using music as the vehicle to create social change, a skill she has perfected over the last four years employed by the Incredible Children's Art Network after school music program. In this program her roles have included lead teaching artist, strings specialist, orchestra conducter, choral conductor, arranger and composer.
